INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (Year 9 – Year 11)
The significance of ICT in today’s world
When we look around, we can see thats the world in the midst of a general-purpose technologies revolution. Although this revolution has taken many names, there is little doubt that it is a technological revolution, or a new techno-economic pattern, brought about by a set of new information and communication technologies(ICT). The ongoing ICT revolution, combined with the force of globalization, has provoked the hopes and fears of countries at all levels of development, to leapfrog to the new economy, or be left out of the loop.
Our children are the future of this world. The subject of Information and Communication Technology(ICT) prepares pupils to participate in a rapidly changing world in which work and their activities are increasingly transformed by access to varied and developing technologies. Pupils use ICT tools to find, explore, analyze, exchange and present information responsibly, creatively and with discrimination. They learn how to employ ICT to enable rapid access to ideas and experiences from a wide range of people, communities and cultures. Increased capability in the use of ICT promotes initiative and independent learning, with people being enabled to make informed judgment about when and where to use ICT to best effect, and consider its implication for home and work both now and in the future.
“Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important.” – Bill Gates
ICT plays a pivotal role in everyday life in our society. It has invoked great interest in all the parents and students alike. The management of St. Mary’s has ensured that state-of-the-art facilities are provided to the students for quenching their thirst for more knowledge in the field of ICT. The O’ Level syllabus (London Board) is regularly updated to help the students keep pace with the leaping world of ICT around them. Through the years, the excellent examination results speak for themselves about the growing interest of students in this field.
The ICT department is well equiped with the most modern facilities that include separate state-of-art computer labs for senior and junior students. Highly qualified and well trained teachers are available to impart the valuable knowledge in ICT to the students. In line with multi-culture diversity of the students in St. Mary’s the staff members are also from various cultural backgrounds.
